Sustainable residence hall
An academic capital-project proposal balancing sustainable design, construction planning, and financial feasibility.
Completed proposalProblem
Our team developed a proposal for a ten-story, 720-bed UVA residence hall, considering how design, sustainability, and capital planning fit together.
Approach How I thought about it
- I worked with my team to connect structural and site planning with sustainability, construction scheduling, permitting, financing, and long-term operations.
What I built or did
- We developed an academic design and feasibility proposal for a ten-story, 720-bed UVA residence hall.
- We considered geothermal energy, rooftop solar, green roofing, high-efficiency windows, efficient building systems, and green infrastructure.
Results
- Proposal estimate
$115.1 million estimated total project cost: $74.8 million direct costs, $29.1 million indirect costs, and $11.2 million contingency.
- Proposal estimate
Approximately $509,000 in projected annual energy savings. All financial figures are academic proposal estimates, not realized construction results.
